Nigeria beat out South Africa and Kenya to be named the host of the competition’s second edition in 2027.
The African School Games features student-athletes aged between 14 and 17. Competing in different sports which includes athletics, badminton, basketball, football, swimming, gymnastics, karate, and table tennis and other events.
Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, said the privilege to host is “a huge win for Nigeria and the future of sports development on the continent”.
“It is also a reflection of the Renewed Hope Mandate, Nigeria is fast returning to glory as the epicentre for sports excellence in Africa, while simultaneously growing our sports economy and enhancing our international image as a prime destination for global sporting events,”
“In 2027, Nigeria will deliver an unforgettable experience for young athletes from across the continent.” He said.
