Super Eagles World Cup Exit
The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to break the jinx against Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the World Cup after Marcos Rojo’s strike sealed the fate of the three-time African champions.
Prior to the make-or-mar encounter, the Barcelona star was on his way to bagging his worst World Cup outing which would have been capped by an early exit if the Albiceleste had eventually lost to Nigeria.
Argentina fans already uncertain of their fate got fed with hope as Messi found the back of the net in the 14th minute of the game.
In the end, despite Victor Moses’ leveler from the spot, Manchester United’s Rojo got the winner with 4 minutes left before added time.
Fans of the Super Eagles have been trading blame and most of them seem to be pointing at Odion Ighalo who missed two chances on goal.
Blames have been apportioned at the Referee, Coach and other players but this tweet summarises where the fans place the brunt.
Balogun cleared di maria
Ref gave yellow.. Most would give red
Balogun has a soft fall
Ref gave penalty.. Many won’t
Argentina dived in our box
Ref ignored.. Many would be bias
Ighalo missed chances but wait a minute… Let us blame the Ref that was even on our side

Nigerians can’t handle it yesterday on instagram, they went crazy and cussed out the referee but ighalo already knew what will happen when Nigerians are done cussing the referee so he blocked his comment section
Nigerians are hyper emotional fans they took it to his wife’s page

I really don’t think we were robbed. That ball was clear ball to hand, no intention. It’d be embarrassing for any world class ref to call that a penalty.
That being said, let’s ask Ighalo about his meeting with Yakubu and how they conspired to roll back the years on us.

I don’t think it’s a penalty if a player *unintentionally* nods the ball against his own hand.
But if you’re really looking for something to be mad about, be mad about Ighalo missing that chance after the ball fell to him. Forget this referee talk.

Only Rashidi Yekini has worn the number 9 jersey and scored for Nigeria at the @FIFAWorldCup
Bartholomew Ogbeche (2002)
Obafemi Martins (2010)
Emmanuel Emenike (2014)
Odion Ighalo (2018) have all failed to score.

The truth about this moment is that we only remembered it should have been a penalty only after IGHALO had blasted our chance of scoring away.

And to cap it up, this particular tweet showed just how a section of the fans despise the former Watford striker.
Wife: Foolish man
Wife: I don’t blame you atall
Husband: Nothing u will say that will make me get hurt
Wife realising he is a Nigerian
Husband:. If you call me that name again you will park your load😂😂

Ighalo is reported to take responsibility for the loss. According to the Cable, he said:
“I take responsibility for this game because if I had taken those chances I had, that would have made it a different ball game now.”
“I missed a couple of chances that would have finished the game but that’s football because sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.”
