Lionel Messi’s agent and father Jorge Messi and his son are denying the purported existence of a €700m release clause in Messi’s Barcelona contract.

The Argentine captain wants to leave the Nou camp for free after spending almost two decades with the club.

But the Catalan club are insisting on a release clause said to be €700m which Messi and his Dad are denying such claim.

Football expert and Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano who is closely following up the transfer twitted;

Messi statement. 🚨
“This one about the €700m release clause must be an error on La Liga part”. Jorge and Leo Messi are denying the existence of a €700m release clause. Messi wants to leave for FREE. Barça won’t accept this position. Man City are still waiting. 🔴 #FCB #Messi

Manchester City are behind the scene waiting for Messi to finalise his termination of contract or agree on a reasonable release clause so they can trigger and get him to England.
