Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given reasons why he preferred Timothy Fosu-Mensah over fellow auxiliary left-back Diego Dalot in the win over Crystal Palace.

Dalot was widely expected to fill the void left by two United left backs Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams.

Both Shaw and Williams were injured in the 2-2 draw against Southampton and Dalot was the first option before Fusu-Mensah but Solskjaer opted for the later.

The Dutch International has not played for United in over three years, but started ahead of Dalot who scored against Tranmere Rovers in the FA cup.
