The 1st Chief Olusegun Obasanjo National Squash Open Championships came to an end Saturday at the OOPL squash court, Abeokuta.

Abdulrahaman Lanre emerged as the men’s champion of the 1st Chief Olusegun Obasanjo National Squash Open Championships at the OOPL Squash court in Abeokuta.

Lanre who hails from Lagos state overpowered Garba Enimakure 3-1 (11-3, 8-11, 11-4, 11-8) in close to 2hours of exciting rallies, drop shots and cross counts in front of dignitaries which included the former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Abdulrahaman is currently ranked No.2 among Nigeria’s Squash Players.

In the women’s category Yemisi Olatunji of Lagos prooved her mettle as Nigeria’s no1 by defeating Rofiat Abdulazeez, 3-0  (11-9, 11-8, 11-1) to become the women’s champion at the maiden Chief Olusegun Obasanjo National Squash Championships.

Adegoke Onaopemipo of Lagos state in the U19 boys’ category comfortably strolled past Desmond Iguodola of Headwaters Academy, 3-0 in 15-13, 12-10, 11-4 to win the title.

Odunade Adeyi of Kwara State defeated Dahood Kudirat 3-1 (11-4, 8-11, 11-6, 11-2) to emerge winner of the 1st Chief Olusegun Obasanjo National Squash Open Championship for the U19 Girs’ category.

The week-long tournament hosted participants from Lagos, Ogun, Kwara, Edo, Delta and Ondo at the OOPL squash court in Abeokuta.
